Gossamer Frontier (a witchy, sci-fantasy solo-RPG)

Created by Wrel (Gossamer Frontier)

Gossamer Frontier is witchy, sci-fantasy solo-TTRPG with a narrative focus. In a time of strife, become the Captain your people need. Build a crew, earn their trust, and find companionship along the way.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Your Gossamer crewmates in Deeds Drawn! (and other stuff)
about 12 hours ago – Thu, Apr 30, 2026 at 09:08:13 AM

Hey there, folks! There's just one week until my next project, Deeds Drawn, launches. I decided to pull the trigger on giving previous campaign backers (Gossamer Frontier or Distal) some bonus cards for Deeds Drawn when they pledge.

You'll get seven cards total (6 lineage options and 1 class option), based on your crew from Gossamer.

I recently finished a second prototype for the game, and am getting it printed and sent over. Should be here in a couple of weeks, which unfortunately doesn't time out with the game's launch, but it's all good. I'll show it off at some point.

Gossamer Progress
Below is an example spread for the day-to-day procedure during travel to new destinations. This is mainly how you'll interact with the crew between missions, outside of explicit cutscenes with scripted dialogue and such. It's essentially the "Commander Shepard talks to the crew between missions" portion of the game. I've waffled back and forth over this design a fair amount, so at this point, I think I just need to finish the core game loop up and get it into some folks' hands to playtest. Still a ways off from that, however.

For the visual design, what you see here is likely temporary. I keep trying (in vain) to push more color into the layout, but it's all a bit busy. I prefer clean, digestible, but the limited pagecount and smaller page height/width for this format is giving me a run for my money. We'll get there, though.

I'll keep you all posted, thank you!

Crewmate Reveal (Gossamer Frontier 🛡)

Meet Macky

Hellooooo again! I wanted to share another one of your crewmates in Gossamer Frontier. Macky will be your security specialist on the ship. Like every one of your crewmates, they've got a bit of baggage to sort out. Check out the art after the jump (you've got to log into BackerKit to do that.)

In other news... Pins!

The lapel pins for folks showed up a couple weeks ago. This is my first time doing pins before. In hindsight, I'd handle some things a bit differently, but they turned out well regardless.

Gossamer Rewards in Deeds Drawn?

My next campaign launches with BackerKit's "Pocketopia" event in just a few weeks, and I've been thinking that it could be cool to reward Gossamer Frontier backers with special cards if they back Deeds Drawn.

I was planning to have a special "booster pack" that you could use in Deeds Drawn, swapping any of the basic lineages out with one from Gossamer. It feels like it could be more trouble than it's worth, but if enough Gossamer folks follow Deeds Drawn, it'd be a good signal for it.

You can follow Deeds Drawn here, if you aren't already.

Thanks, folks!

Welcome to April! (Gossamer Frontier 🌷)
24 days ago – Mon, Apr 06, 2026 at 10:07:21 AM

Hey there, folks! Here's a quick update to kick off April.

Map!

In Gossamer Frontier, your escapades take place in the Torq of Mag'dah. The map is unconventional... but so is the game's spaceflight. Magnets, how do they work?

Stickers!

During the campaign, we hit a stretch goal to get all physical editions a STICKER. Those got here recently, they look pretty good, and have a matte texture.

Deeds Drawn!

In May, BackerKit begins its "Pocketopia" event, and I'm participating! Deeds Drawn is a new card-based TTRPG I've just been sitting on for most of the year. It's a pocket-sized, GM-less, solo or cooperative experience, so you can play it on the plane... or with your morning coffee, or whatever!

Follow that project here!

Thanks, folks! More to follow.

Crewmate Reveal (Gossamer Frontier 🌱)

Hey there, folks! Thought I'd chime in with a quick update.

Work Continues

Gossamer Frontier, which has officially exceeded the 60 page limit I was trying to impose on myself. 60 pages is about the recommended cutoff for stapled booklets, so I'm in the process of culling (along with a bunch of writing still left to do), at this point. What is fluff? What can be made more concise? What should I leave to the player's imagination?

All those fun design decisions that you can bandaid with higher page count, are suddenly more serious with a project like this. The challenge is both enjoyable and excruciating, which I'm pretty sure makes me a masochist.

Anywho, the focus at the end of it all is to make something you enjoy playing, that also gets the right vibes across. Everything is still on track for a summer release, so we're humming right along.

More Book Art

After the jump (you've got to log in on the site) Backers will be able to see some new crew art for your Quartermaster, Kiri. As with the ones before it, the art is done by Graey Erb. It turned out really well, and I'm digging the direction this is all taking on.

That's all for now, folks!

Next Steps (for Gossamer Frontier)
about 2 months ago – Tue, Mar 03, 2026 at 07:43:08 AM

Here's what happens next.

Hey there, folks! Now that the campaign is done, the focus shifts toward getting the game ready, both on the art and production side, as well as the design side. I've already gotten good feedback from the mechanics demo, and my overall feeling is that there's a lot of "do this, roll this, think about this" at the moment, and I'm more interested in "how should we handle this? how does it affect the crew? what happens if we fail?" In other words, less mechanical, more thoughtful, fewer "tasks", more powerful moments.

With that said we're on a good path right now. The current timeline for digital delivery is this summer, August at the latest (but likely sooner,) with the physical ship dates tentatively pegged at September 21st.

In order to get your goods, you'll need to answer a "survey". This will be familiar to folks who've backed Kickerstart or BackerKit projects below. But it's, frankly, an annoying extra step that people sometimes miss because an email goes missing, or they just totally forget about it.

📦 This is also when shipping costs show up! 📦

When surveys go out, rest assured I will ping you relentlessly until they are complete, and you'll have at least a month to take care of it. Stay tuned for that.

Mechanics Demo Playthrough

On the last stream, we played through the mechanics demo, start to finish. I carved that piece out, bumped the audio up, and cut out the filler (well, most of it.) If you'd like to watch someone play through, and get all the introspection that comes with it, click here: https://youtu.be/cJGnQWg7GAQ

If you haven't stepped through the mechanics demo yet, you can still do that here. Additionally, if you have any feedback, questions, or... anything really, "[email protected]" is a good email to send it to.

Thanks, folks!
