Hey there, folks! Thought I'd chime in with a quick update.

Work Continues

Gossamer Frontier, which has officially exceeded the 60 page limit I was trying to impose on myself. 60 pages is about the recommended cutoff for stapled booklets, so I'm in the process of culling (along with a bunch of writing still left to do), at this point. What is fluff? What can be made more concise? What should I leave to the player's imagination?

All those fun design decisions that you can bandaid with higher page count, are suddenly more serious with a project like this. The challenge is both enjoyable and excruciating, which I'm pretty sure makes me a masochist.

Anywho, the focus at the end of it all is to make something you enjoy playing, that also gets the right vibes across. Everything is still on track for a summer release, so we're humming right along.

More Book Art

After the jump (you've got to log in on the site) Backers will be able to see some new crew art for your Quartermaster, Kiri. As with the ones before it, the art is done by Graey Erb. It turned out really well, and I'm digging the direction this is all taking on.

That's all for now, folks!

Next Steps (for Gossamer Frontier)

Here's what happens next.

Hey there, folks! Now that the campaign is done, the focus shifts toward getting the game ready, both on the art and production side, as well as the design side. I've already gotten good feedback from the mechanics demo, and my overall feeling is that there's a lot of "do this, roll this, think about this" at the moment, and I'm more interested in "how should we handle this? how does it affect the crew? what happens if we fail?" In other words, less mechanical, more thoughtful, fewer "tasks", more powerful moments.

With that said we're on a good path right now. The current timeline for digital delivery is this summer, August at the latest (but likely sooner,) with the physical ship dates tentatively pegged at September 21st.

In order to get your goods, you'll need to answer a "survey". This will be familiar to folks who've backed Kickerstart or BackerKit projects below. But it's, frankly, an annoying extra step that people sometimes miss because an email goes missing, or they just totally forget about it.

📦 This is also when shipping costs show up! 📦

When surveys go out, rest assured I will ping you relentlessly until they are complete, and you'll have at least a month to take care of it. Stay tuned for that.

Mechanics Demo Playthrough

On the last stream, we played through the mechanics demo, start to finish. I carved that piece out, bumped the audio up, and cut out the filler (well, most of it.) If you'd like to watch someone play through, and get all the introspection that comes with it, click here: https://youtu.be/cJGnQWg7GAQ

If you haven't stepped through the mechanics demo yet, you can still do that here. Additionally, if you have any feedback, questions, or... anything really, "[email protected]" is a good email to send it to.

Thanks, folks!

Playable Mechanics Demo available!

Play the Mechanics Demo!

Hey there, folks. I just finished putting together an 11-page "prelude" that acts as a one-shot mechanics demo. The scope is limited (you're not a starship Captain, you have only one companion, etc) and doesn't cross events with the main game, so there should be guilt-free, spoiler-less play.

Even with all that said, it's kind of a lot to jam into 11 pages, so please let me know how you get on with it. I'd be interested to hear your experiences so we can iron out the rough edges (not just for the demo, but the game proper.)

UPDATE: As of Feb. 27, there's an updated version of this (01b). Same download link!

You can grab it here!

Campaign Finale Livestream!

We've got less than 24 hours to go now, and I'd like to end it with a stream! We'll be playing that demo above, and answering questions and so-on as we move through it. You can watch it RIGHT ON BACKERKIT, or on YouTube.

We'll see you soon, folks! Thank you!

Two Days To Go!

We're about in our last two days of the campaign, and it's been a good one. Thanks to all of the folks who've helped spread the word, and take a shot on our lil' project here. I'll be going over next steps once the campaign ends, talking more about timelines, shipping, surveys, all the "fun" logistical stuff at the end of each project.

But until then...

We Hit our Sticker Goal!

We hit our achievement for nabbing 333 pledges this project and anyone who pledged to a physical edition now also gets a STICKER of the Captain for free!

More updates to follow, thanks folks!

New Art! (with only minor spoilers.)

New Crewmate Art!

The first companion you meet is Wheeler, one of a (playable) species with arachnid-like traits. I won't say too much about Wheeler specifically (you can find that out for yourself,) but you might be able to glean a bit from the imagery below. The art was done by Graey Erb, who also did the cover art for this project, and nearly all of the art on my last project, Distal.
